The home is a good starting point for exploring the Sainj Valley, a quiet part of the Kullu region. Instead of ticking off a list, the days here are about slower things.
Guests often go for long walks and treks into the surrounding forests and meadows. The valley is part of the Great Himalayan National Park ecozone, and there are trails leading to small lakes and high-altitude pastures. The hosts can help point you toward local village trails. The area is also good for birdwatching. For a longer day trip, you can drive to the nearby Tirthan Valley, known for its river and angling spots. The main town of Kullu is a couple of hours away, and from there you can access the road to Manali for sights like the Hadimba Devi temple and Vashisht's hot springs.
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (KUU) in Kullu, which serves the Kullu-Manali region. Flights can be limited and weather-dependent. The most reliable all-weather airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), a 7-8 hour drive away.
By Rail: The nearest major railhead is in Chandigarh (CDG). From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus towards Kullu. The narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla toy train is a scenic option if your journey takes you through Shimla, but Chandigarh is more direct for the Kullu valley.
By Road: The home is accessible by road from Kullu, which is on NH-3. The main highways are well-maintained, but the final approach to the home is an uphill, off-road track.
The best seasons to visit are from March to June, when the snow melts and the valleys are green, and again from September to November, for clear skies and crisp mountain air after the monsoon. The monsoon months of July and August see heavy rain and can cause landslides on the highways. From December to February, the region sees snowfall, especially in the upper reaches, which may affect road access.
