The camp is the destination. Most guests come for the trek to Raghupur Fort, known for its 360-degree views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. It’s a short, rewarding walk from the camp.
Jalori Pass, a high mountain pass at over 10,000 feet, is the main landmark in the area. From the pass, another popular day hike is to Serolsar Lake, a calm body of water surrounded by thick oak and pine forests. The walk is gentle and takes a couple of hours each way.
This is not a place for a long list of sights. It's a place to walk, sit, and watch the weather change across the valleys.
Getting there.
The camp is in a remote part of Himachal's Kullu district. The journey is part of the experience.
By Air: The nearest airport is Bhuntar Airport (KUU) in Kullu, about 2-3 hours away by car. Flights are limited and can be weather-dependent. The most reliable major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), which is a 7-8 hour drive away.
By Rail: The nearest major railway station is in Chandigarh. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus towards the Kullu valley.
By Road: The camp is located near Jalori Pass. The road leading to the pass is steep and has many hairpin bends. It is paved but narrow in sections. A vehicle with good ground clearance is helpful. As a rule of thumb in the Himalayas, expect any 100km journey to take 4-6 hours.
Best time to visit.
The best months to visit are from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the snow has melted, and again from September to November for clear skies after the monsoon.
July and August see heavy rainfall, which can cause landslides and make the roads difficult. The winter months, from December to February, bring heavy snowfall, and Jalori Pass is often closed to traffic.
