The home is a good starting point for exploring the Kumaon region. Mukteshwar Temple, a 350-year-old Shiva temple, is a short drive away, along with Chauli Ki Jali, a cliff edge known for its panoramic views and rock climbing.
For a longer day trip, Jim Corbett National Park is accessible. The Ramnagar gate is the most common entry point for tiger safaris, which run from October to June.
Nainital, the region's main hub and a former summer capital, is about 50 km away. It's a bustling lake town with markets, cafes, and the well-known Naina Devi Temple.
Further afield, for serious trekkers, are places like Chopta, the base for the Tungnath and Chandrashila trek. Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world. This requires a separate trip and is a 220km drive from the Garhwal hub of Haridwar.
By Air: The nearest airport for the Kumaon region is Pantnagar Airport (PGH). From there, it is a 3-4 hour taxi ride to the Mukteshwar area. For the Garhwal region, the main airport is Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun.
By Rail: The closest major railhead is Kathgodam (KGM), which has good connectivity to Delhi and other major cities. Taxis are readily available at the station for the onward journey to Mukteshwar. Haridwar is the corresponding railhead for the Garhwal region.
By Road: The home is located in a village setting. The main roads in the region are generally well-maintained, but the final 5-10 km approach to rural homes can be on unpaved (kuccha) roads. The main road hub for this area is Nainital.
The Kumaon region is pleasant year-round, but the best times are from March to June and again from September to November. These months offer clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and excellent views of the Himalayan peaks.
The monsoon season, from July to August, brings lush greenery but also the risk of landslides, which can disrupt travel plans. The high-altitude destinations like Auli and Chopta are typically closed due to heavy snowfall from December to February, but the lower valleys remain accessible.
